Wednesday Wisdom Intro
Hi Friends! On Wednesday’s, this page will be used to highlight current evidence + research.
Some weeks we will highlight research articles/studies avaliable in human sports medicine about equestrians. Other weeks we may discuss rehabilitation protocols avaliable in the equine veterinary medicine realm. I want to make research accessible to you and help you know what evidence is avaliable!
The touble with research in equine sports is that we are DECADES behind other traditional sports. The majority of research in this sport is based in Europe and Australia. I’m grateful that those countries are pushing the sports to becoming more evidence based, but we still have a long way to go.
Equestrian Sports have been established as one of the most dangerous sports in the Olympics. Regardless of discipline, riders know each day in the saddle comes with inherent risk.
We need the research to be able to show our healthcare providers, veterinarians, and regulating bodies of the sport how we can successfully support horses + rider teams. That’s how change is made and safety standards are established.
So let’s get a bit more evidence based, folks. Keep an eye out for next week’s Wisdom! We will be talking ALL about concussions!
